Volunteer Shopper

Merton Voluntary Sector, London Borough of Merton and Merton Clinical Commissioing Group have developed a co-ordinated response to triage and allocate support to vulnerable adults affected by the Covid-19 crisis. Volunteers will help to deliver a number of essential services to enable vulnerable and older adults to stay safe and well during the crisis.

Role Purpose

  • Helping to ensure vulnerable and older people have food and essential items whilst self-isolating
  •  Increasing access to support networks, information and services 
  • To help maintain clients’ health and wellbeing

Person Specification:

  • Understanding and empathy with the needs of older/vulnerable people
  • Practical and able to transport / carry shopping
  • Emotionally resilient
  • Ability to adhere to boundaries
  • Ability to be friendly, positive and patient
  • Reliability,  punctuality and trustworthiness
  • Ability to read between the lines and, with appropriate training, recognise circumstances where clients require enhanced support
  • Good communication skills especially in English (other languages may be required)
  • Ability to maintain written records 
  • Agreement and ability to work within organisational policies and procedures
  • Weekly, daytime or early evening availability
  • Availability of 3 months and over preferred
