Workshop on asset-based community development

BAME VOICE invite you to join them in discussing the values and effectiveness of asset-based community development (ABCD) in the London Borough of Merton.  The ABCD approach was developed by John L. McKnight and John P. Kretzmann at the Institute for Policy Research at North Western University in Evanston, Illinois.

ABCD is a description of what happens when local people come together and behave effectively in a way that’s about good relationships with each other, especially those who are on the margins of their community, but also good relationships with the environment, culture, economy, and the neighbourhood or community that they’re in.  At its heart, is a belief that 'care cannot be managed, controlled, bought or sold.  Care is the freely given gift of the heart.'

This is an opportunity for Merton residents to come together to discuss our thoughts and ideas on how to improve facilities for the community as a whole.

The Workshop will be held on Wednesday, 18th September from 10.30am to 12.30pm at the Blessed House, 328 London Road, Mitcham CR4 3DN (next door to Mitcham Citizens Advice Bureau and almost opposite Age UK).  Buses 200, 201, 118, S1 all stop nearby (Glebe Court Bus stop).

Facilitators: Sam Spencer and Hannah Neale
