MVSC welcomes new CEO

As we enter 2020 and continue to champion the voluntary, community and faith sectors in Merton, we are delighted to welcome Simon Shimmens to the team.

Simon joins us as our new CEO and comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience. He has worked in the voluntary and community, public and private sectors in a range of permanent, interim and consultancy roles and has a real appreciation of the challenges facing small organisations.

He has prior experience of working in Merton for the Training and Enterprise Council for SW London (AZTEC) and the London South Learning and Skills Council. As a senior consultant for the Department for Work and Pensions, he worked closely with the voluntary and community sector in the development of procurement standards.

Simon is delighted to be joining MVSC to lead the team to improve the way we serve and support the diverse voluntary and community sector in Merton. “I am very motivated to find new ways that MVSC can work with local organisations to enhance the valuable services they provide for residents."

Simon is personally motivated to support disadvantaged people to achieve their full potential on a personal, family and community level. He has experience of improving services by using volunteers and appreciates the huge contribution and experience they can provide to the benefit of customers. Simon has recently worked in the social housing sector, representing the views of residents and community groups to influence strategy and change how residents are best supported at local community level.
