Morden Library of Things is teaming up with Merton Council and Sustainable Merton next month to save waste from ending up in landfill.
The social enterprise gives Merton residents the opportunity to borrow useful household items like drills, carpet cleaners and gazebos from as little as £1 per day, before returning them for another neighbour to use. Their mission is to make borrowing more affordable and convenient for people than it is to buy items which aren’t used often. At their first site in Crystal Palace over 2,800 people have borrowed something and saved over 15,900kg of waste from ending up in landfill.
Their kiosk will be in Morden Library, but before they start they are asking the community to vote for ‘things’ they would find useful to borrow from the library. They are also recruiting for a Thing Technician. More information can be found on their website here: https://www.libraryofthings.co.uk/morden
