Are your clients prepared for hot weather?

As the weather warms up, the Warm & Well campaign in Merton is working in partnership with Merton Council, Wimbledon Guild, Age UK Merton and Thinking Works to provide information and support on how to stay well during the summer months. This is particularly key with many older and vulnerable people at home more now than usual, especially with 1 in 5 homes at risk of overheating in England.

How they can help:

  1. Keeping cool in the summer talks: Online talks for community groups with tips on how to stay well in warmer weather and information on local services available to you in current circumstances. Contact Wimbledon Guild – 0208 946 0735
  2. Energy saving telephone advice: Free telephone or email advice on saving on your energy bills. Thinking Works can also see if you might be eligible for grants from the Mayor of London of up to £4000 for insulation and heating works. Although winter feels a long way off, now is the time to ensure you are prepared by paying less on your bills and that any issues are sorted well before it starts getting cold. This service is for residents aged over 65, OR with a long-term health condition or disability OR on a low income. Contact Wimbledon Guild – 0208 946 0735
  3. Information and advice: Free confidential advice over the telephone on pensions, welfare benefits, social care, health, housing, transport and more. Contact Age UK Merton – 020 8648 5792
  4. Financial support for individuals: Grants for eligible people in Merton to help with fuel costs, bedding and food. In the current circumstances, they can provide supermarket vouchers to eligible people in Merton and are completing assessments over the phone. Contact Wimbledon Guild – 0208 946 0735
  5. Handyperson service: Help for people aged 65+ or with longterm health conditions or disabilities with minor jobs to ensure their homes are safe at these times and to help them stay well. This includes home visits to fix lightbulbs, replace batteries in smoke alarms, replace broken toilet seats etc. Contact Wimbledon Guild – 0208 946 0735
