One of our priorities at MVSC is to support volunteer-involving organisations in Merton. We are particularly pleased to see a new partnership between NCVO, Volunteer Now, Volunteer Scotland and WCVA establish.   This partnership is giving organisations access a free IiV Essentials online tool designed to help you do a basic health check on your volunteer practice. Last year, an army of volunteers and community groups assembled across Merton to make sure help reaches those who need it most.  3348 isolated households and those at risk from COVID-19 asked for help, with over 700 volunteers stepping forward to make sure they got the help they needed.  The hub continues to offer support. Do you want to help stop the spread of COVID-19 by sharing clear and consistent messages? Register to become a COVID-19 Community Champion! Merton Council provide Champions with the latest campaign materials on COVID-19 via email and text message, and at weekly virtual drop-in meetings. Community Champions then share this information with their colleagues, family, friends, and communities. Rapid 30-minute COVID-19 tests (lateral flow tests) are now available for residents, key workers, carers and volunteers in Merton. Testing for residents is at Morden Assembly Hall, Tudor Drive, Morden SM4 4PJ, with additional sites being added through January. For key workers, volunteers and carers, testing will be carried out by a network of up to 40 community pharmacies. MVSC is working with the voluntary sector to mobilise a volunteer taskforce to help isolated households and those at risk from COVID-19. We have received over 800 volunteer offers from people with a wide range of skills and experience and we are working with partners to match as many of them as we can. Volunteering during lockdown has become somewhat of the ‘norm’ for people in Merton. For Harry, this has been the ‘norm’ for over 47 years. Harry was given the opportunity to swim when he joined the RAF in 1954 - which is when his passion and love for swimming began.
