Merton Volunteers gathered together at the Vestry Hall on Thursday 28th February in recognition of the amount of voluntary work they had done in Merton.  The volunteers had been invitated by MVSC, Merton Council and ValueYou, to receive a ValueYou Certificate and Reward Card as a special thank you for giving over 100 hours of their time to volunteering in the borough.   Most of the volunteers attending had been volunteering for many years and had clocked up well over 100 hours! A celebration award ceremony was held on Thursday 8 March at Merton Arts Space, Wimbledon Library to recognise the work of Merton’s amazing Library Volunteers. Merton Council is calling on residents to team up with its street cleaning crews and councillors this month, by donning rubber gloves and litter pickers in a bid to give the borough a spring clean. Residents and council staff ahead of the 2017 Merton Big Community Clean Up. Well done to the team of volunteers who helped Friends of Mitcham Common fill over 50 bags and cleared some of Commonside East, and also a stretch along the Croydon Road. Everyone enjoyed themselves, especially the coffee and biscuits afterwards. One of the volunteers said: “We found it really therapeutic to be with like-minded people who want to make the area litter free – we felt like we were part of a community."
