One of our priorities at MVSC is to support volunteer-involving organisations in Merton. We are particularly pleased to see a new partnership between NCVO, Volunteer Now, Volunteer Scotland and WCVA establish.   This partnership is giving organisations access a free IiV Essentials online tool designed to help you do a basic health check on your volunteer practice. MVSC is working with the voluntary sector to mobilise a volunteer taskforce to help isolated households and those at risk from COVID-19. We have received over 800 volunteer offers from people with a wide range of skills and experience and we are working with partners to match as many of them as we can. Volunteering during lockdown has become somewhat of the ‘norm’ for people in Merton. For Harry, this has been the ‘norm’ for over 47 years. Harry was given the opportunity to swim when he joined the RAF in 1954 - which is when his passion and love for swimming began. He went on to swim at the highest levels, which led him to train other service men from the Army, Navy, Airforce and even the SAS. 2020 is flying by and Sustainable Merton's Community Champions have been very busy contributing to a wide range of projects and activities to improve our local environment, encourage sustainable behaviour change and address issues around Waste, Air Quality, Energy, and Food. Merton Centre for Independent Living helps deaf and disabled residents through the crisis with advice and advocacy and disability arts.   Reaching out to already isolated and vulnerable groups through lockdown has been a vital but challenging endeavour.
