On 10 July 2019, Merton Council declared a Climate Emergency and set the ambitious carbon reduction target to make the borough of Merton carbon neutral by 2050. To lead the way, the Council is also working towards making its own buildings and services carbon neutral by 2030. We are delighted to welcome 6 new members of staff to the Social Prescribing service, enabling us to roll the service out across the whole of Merton. Social Prescribers provide the time for individuals to focus on what is important to them and enable them to take a holistic approach to identifying steps that they can take to make changes to improve their health and well-being. In a recent survey by Garfield Weston Foundation and Pilotlight – it was highlighted that 41% of small charities expected their income to rise over the next 12 months. MVSC's Volunteer Coordinator Sharon Clark and former staff member, Sarah Hannigan, spent the night in a very wet and windy Trafalgar Square on Saturday 7th December, joining hundreds of others seeking to raise money and highlight the plight of homelessness. They faced temperatures of about 10C and heavy rain - conditions which supporters said rough sleepers face every day. It was announced last week that the Lloyds Bank Foundation for England and Wales is offering small charities grants of up to £100,000 towards their core costs.
