Cyber experts have launched measures to protect the UK from online harm as the country continues to rely more on technology while staying at home to protect the NHS and save lives. We launched the Merton Giving Coronavirus Fund, providing financial support to organisations working locally that are either delivering COVID-19 front line services or whose organisation’s ability to operate has been impacted by the measures put in place to stem the COVID-19 pandemic. As things stand, charity shops in Merton can expect to open in June. It comes as the government announced plans to allow non-essential shops to open from 15 June 2020, including charity shops, which have been closed since March. Unfortunately, criminals will exploit every opportunity they can to defraud innocent people of their money, or steal their personal details. As we enter this phase of lockdown, we continue our work with the voluntary sector to help isolated households and those at risk from COVID-19. We have been delighted with the continued response from people willing to give their time to help others. For National Volunteers’ Week we wanted to shout out to the Dons Local Action Group. When the Coronavirus pandemic hit Merton, their mission simple - help vulnerable residence get access to food.  The initiative hit new hights recently as they have now delivered over 3000 food packages in Merton alone.
