Lola Barrett, Chair of MVSC, welcomed over 60 people to Grenfell Housing and Training and invited Councillor Stephen Alambritis, Chair of the Merton Partnership and Leader of Merton Council, to officially launch the new voluntary sector funding programme Promoting Health and Wellbeing in East Merton. Dear friends, It has been another very positive week overall in Merton. We have had further reductions in robberies this week. Whilst we need to keep a focus on this, there have been none reported to us over the last two days which is superb. My CID department have also had other successes that have included charging some of our high profile criminals and I can promise you, we will continue working hard on locking up as many more as possible. Merton LGBT forum are organising an event on Thursday 17th May to mark IDAHO day (International Day against Homophobia) This is the first year that the Day has been observed in Merton and the Forum has arranged a film screening of the award-winning drama, ‘The Laramie Project’ which looks at the impact on a small community in America of the hate crime motivated murder of a local student, Matthew Shepard.
