Merton has declared the general election results for the two constituencies in the borough. Siobhan McDonagh was elected MP for the Mitcham and Morden constituency for the Labour party. Stephen Hammond, representing the Conservative Party, was elected MP for the Wimbledon constituency. On Wednesday 18th December 2019, Playfinder’s 2019 Outstanding Sports Facility of the Year award was given to Tooting and Mitcham Community Sports Club.  Tooting and Mitcham is an independently funded ‘not for profit’ facility which provides sport, health, education and well-being facilities. Partnership for Young London is London's Regional Youth Unit, providing research, training, support for London's youth sector. They are currently working with the NYA to offer Level 2 and Level 3 certificates for youth work training. Merton Sports and Social Club for Visually Impaired People (MSSC) has been organising tandem cycle rides for over thirty years from its base in Colliers Wood. The club has a fleet of tandem bicycles and pairs up sighted front riders with visually impaired back riders for regular outings.  The rides are short and long to various destinations, and always include a stop at a café or a pub. Merton Council is to step up action for its cleaner air campaign in the New Year by introducing new parking charges. The new charges, which are being introduced following substantial consultations with residents, will apply to controlled parking zones, public parking zones, public car parks, on street parking and parking permits in Merton.
