Goodbye from me!

Thank you Merton, it’s been great! 18 months ago I started at MVSC and it’s been wonderful getting to know the Borough and the lovely people who live and work here. Through my role as Volunteer Coordinator for Youth I was able to get out and about and meet so many of you who so warmly welcomed me. The challenges made the successes feel even sweeter but I certainly have an overarching feeling of achievement that wouldn’t have been at all possible if it wasn’t for lots of you out there. Merton may be small but it’s certainly mighty and will certainly stay as a fond memory.

During the past 18 months the project supported 100 young people in to either volunteering or partnering them up with a befriender. Organisations across Merton took on some of the most vulnerable young people and helped them towards reaching their personal goals. One example is a young lady called Rebecca who started off volunteering at Fayre & Square in Wimbledon. She completed the 8 week course and progressed on to help other learners complete theirs. Not only that but she also volunteered at a crèche and was soon taken on as a paid member of staff. She did everything with such passion and spirit and despite her significant mental health difficulties she achieved so much. Rebecca is now realising her dream, studying health and social care so she can one day open her own crèche. We are extremely proud of all the young people who have taken part over the 3 years the programme was running.

A heartfelt thanks from me to all those involved, I hope to bump in to you down the line!
