Amy’s three reasons why…

Hi I’m Amy and I’m the Volunteer Coordinator for young people here at MVSC. I really enjoy working with young people so it felt like an easy choice when I met a volunteer talking about being a Restorative Justice Panel Member with Merton Youth Justice Service.

I was actually working, helping out at one of our own volunteer drop in sessions, when I heard about this role. Although the training was quite long (6 Saturdays) it felt really great to do something for myself, spending time learning new things and meeting new people which was something I hadn’t done for a long time. The training went so fast and at the end I felt great, like I had really achieved something already even though I wasn’t even actively volunteering yet.

I am now putting all those learnings in to practice but am still also learning along the way. They say that people who volunteer actually feel like they have more time and I couldn’t agree more, volunteering helps me to feel like I’m filling my time doing something worthwhile and I’m always home well in time for dinner and quality cuddle time with the dog!
