Commitment to Volunteering

MVSC is committed to supporting and developing volunteering in Merton. We work with organisations in the public, voluntary and community sectors to develop and match the skills and interests of new volunteers to volunteering opportunities.

We deliver good practice support to organisations involving volunteers in their work, and provide information and advice about volunteering alongside training for organisations and volunteers.

Working closely with voluntary, public sector, community organisations and local groups we lead on campaigns to raise awareness of volunteering, to gain recognition for the contribution of volunteers and to highlight issues that affect volunteers. We aim to make volunteering rewarding and accessible to everyone. We provide one to one support and training to organisations which currently work with volunteers or wish to do so.

Organisations interested in advertising their volunteering opportunities can post their opportunities with us. Organisations looking for support, training or one to one guidance will find our training and support services useful. If you cannot find what you you are looking for and would like to arrange some bespoke one to one support please contact info@mvsc.co.uk.

Individuals interested in volunteering in Merton can participate in programmes which we manage at MVSC, as well as browse other volunteering opportunities within the borough. We have lots of examples of how volunteers contribute to the local community.

We also provide specialist support to volunteers, particularly those with additional needs or those who may face barriers to accessing volunteering opportunities. If you are a volunteer that would like some support, or are a professional wishing to refer a volunteer to us please check our information on supported volunteering.

Commitment to quality volunteering
We currently hold the Volunteer Centre Quality Accreditation (VCQA). VCQA is the quality mark for Volunteer Centres and other organisations providing Volunteer Centre functions. Accreditation provides assurance to commissioners and funders, as well as to members of the public and volunteer involving organisations, that the Volunteer Centre is providing a high quality and effective service.

We are an official Investing in Volunteers partner agency and hold the Investing in Volunteers quality standard. This means we are committed to supporting local groups who want to obtain the standard. The standard enables organisations to comprehensively review their volunteer management and publicly demonstrate their commitment to volunteering. For information about how your organisation could work towards the standard please contact us.

MVSC has recently launched Merton's Youth Approved Volunteering Award, a brand new project that aims to reward organisations that aims to recognise and promote the achievements of organisations working with young volunteers as well as helping to raise the standards of volunteering to ensure young people are having the best experience possible.
